JOB PURPOSE

To ensure efficient, friendly and helpful customer service for sales of wine and spirits to help meet the Beverage department goals. Participate in creating a positive environment that encourages the Jackson Whole Grocer team culture.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Customer Service

  • Ensure interactions with customers are always governed by honesty, integrity and the highest standard of ethical conduct. 

  • Make sure that all customers are treated in a friendly manner, made to feel comfortable and are always satisfied with their shopping experience. 

  • Proactively greet all customers as they enter the department in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner. 

  • Be proactive in offering samples and suggestions for purchase and ways to use product. Refer to all store resources and staff to find answers. Ensure customer leaves with the information they have requested. All employees must be well-versed in store layout and products.
  • Follow through with customer suggestions, comments and complaints from beginning to end. 

  • Always offer a solution that will satisfy the customer, including any necessary returns or exchanges according to Jackson Whole Grocer policies and procedures. 

  • Apply customer service standards consistently over the phone, as well as in person. 

  • Always thank the customer for shopping with us. 

  • Operations
  • Assist in regular department inventories and ensure stock rotation. 


  • Maintain displays, sales floor and storage areas in clean, orderly condition according to department procedures, and all aspects of sales floor operations. 

  • Complete customer transactions quickly and accurately with proper control of all cash according to cash handling procedures.
  • Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of the shift to ensure amounts are correct and that there is adequate change. Also count money and neatly arranges deposit at end of shift.
  • Organize and re-work back stock
  • Request proper identification to sell liquor, beer, and wine
  • Regularly clean and dust fixtures, equipment and product
  • Be safety conscious and correct or report any unsafe conditions you observe.
  • Receive and unload deliveries following established procedures. Check deliveries for damage, quality and accuracy. Rotate deliveries into storage. Ensure proper product dating and labeling procedures are followed. Notify management of any possible discrepancies or concerns. 

  • Work to ensure department priorities are met as set by management, including shift task priorities.
  • Follow food safety and sanitation regulations maintaining correct temperatures for; receiving and storing according to Standard Operating Procedures. Maintain daily temp logs, as directed. 

  • Alert management to low inventories or out-of-stocks of products and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean sales area: floors, counters and tables, mirrors and signs, check stands and , shelving.
  • Maintain a clean backroom work area: coolers, process area, receiving area.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by Beverage Manager.

Merchandising

  • Assist in ensuring the monthly sales and promotional calendar is supported. Stay informed and engaged in carrying out store merchandising goals. 

  • Ensure that the department is fully stocked to give appearance of abundance, products are labeled accurately, and of highest quality in order to attract customer purchases. This includes facing, rotating and culling.
  • Stay informed about product literature, price changes, specials and any events.

  • Must be 21 or older
  • Must be able to communicate in English
  • Willingness to work with sanitizers and cleaners

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Tools and Equipment Used: Knives, box cutters, wheeled carts, hand trucks, dolly, pallet jack
  • Standing/Walking: Constantly throughout work shift on hard floor surface and asphalt.
  • Sitting: Occasionally for breaks and lunch.
  • Lifting: Occasionally lifting 50# floor to waist; frequently lift 30# from floor to 6'. Constantly lifting 25# floor to 6'.
  • Carry: Occasionally carrying bags of groceries and/or 50# dog food bags for up to 30'.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently pushing and pulling grocery carts from store to customer vehicles, and pushing/pulling a dozen empty grocery carts during round up at 30#of force for 150' on asphalt.
  • Climbing: N/A
  • Bending/Twisting: Frequently at the waist and knees to lift bags of groceries from counter into grocery cart.
  • Kneeling/Crawling: Kneeling can be performed occasionally to lift products from low levels, however squatting is recommended. Crawling is never required.
  • Reaching: Frequently reaching to stock shelves up to 6' and to bag groceries.
  • Hands/Arms: Constantly throughout the workday.
  • Work-site Conditions: Work is performed inside the store sale area and outside.
  • Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment.
  • Must be able to perform functions with repetitive wrist and arm motion.

Part-time Year Round Fri through Sun AM shifts; Mon-Tues shifts also available.
